Why Visit 2 Wild Poppies in August?

It’s hot, it’s dry, why on earth would anybody think about perusing the garden center in the squelching heat?

There are plenty of good reasons to visit our nursery in August. We already start out with a short growing season so don’t cut yourself off already. We still have a few good months and the plants LOVE the weather as it starts to cool.

You Need to Keep the Magic Going!

Although August is a slow time of year at the nursery, it’s just another month in the gardening year which is reason enough to head to 2 Wild Poppies and see what’s blooming. There are always holes to plug where something didn’t work out or a planter that was missed in the watering cycle…or a deer has grazed through, or a Mormon cricket or two! No matter how skilled of a garden designer you may be, there is always some tweaking and editing that needs to be done, and the good news is we have just what you need to do just that, even in the month of August. In our annual department you’ll find large Dahlias, Snapdragons, Cannas, Coleus and Calla Lilies, to name just a few. You can plug a hole pretty fast with these well-established plants. If it’s a shrub you’re looking for that has some visual interest this time of year we have a great selection of Butterfly Bushes, Hydrangeas, Dogwoods and Lilacs. And of course, there is an endless list of perennials that are strutting their stuff in the month of August and beyond. Two of my favorites are hibiscus and coral bells.

It’s Time to Bargain Shop!

It is true, like all retailers, there comes a point when we need to turn our inventory. We have a sale bench appropriately called our “Take Me Home Please” department. These are good plants that have just gone past their prime and need to get out of their pots and into your garden. You can usually save 50% or more on these treasures and it is always well stocked this time of year. All of our annuals, herbs and vegetables are now 50% off. If you’ve lost your tomatoes to grasshoppers or crickets, or your chicken in my case, fear not, we have gallon size and bigger tomatoes that are producing! They’re 50% off too!

You Need to Inspiration and Life is Stressful

We know, life is stressful. Many of our customers come just to take a break from the pressures of the day. When it comes to surrounding yourself with the beauty of plants, nothing beats a trip to 2 Wild Poppies. We have taken great measures to create a space for you to take a deep breath, stroll the property and leave your worries in your car. If you happen to find a plant to take home, it’ll be a constant reminder for you to take a deep breath, close your eyes and transport yourself to the peacefulness of the nursery.

Someone Is Getting Married Or You Need a Sympathy Gift

Whether you need a great wedding gift, your first grandchild is born or your best friend just lost their dog, nothing says “I care and I love you” like a living plant. It’s the gift that keeps giving.

So, if the dog days of summer are getting you down, just ask yourself, “Should I visit 2 Wild Poppies in August?” The answer is a big, “YES”. Don’t let people tell you it’s too late to plant. Late summer and fall is the perfect time. Your plants will be well established before winter hits and you’ll be so proud of yourself when spring arrives!

Our late summer hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 10am to 4pm and Sundays, 10am to 3pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Visit us at 194 Two Bottle Bar Lane, Spring Creek, NV
